Task 23 - Comment

Phew! all done - feels great that I have finally finished. I have learned some interesting things and am pleased to have done the program. The 23 Things team plan to develop some new Tasks for 2008, so really, I haven't finished at all!!!!!!!!!

Task 22 2nd Life

Have had a good look at 2nd life and have been to a talk by Kathryn Greenhill or should I say Emerald Dumont from Cybercity2 (Murdoch University) on Second Life - think it looks ok but I can't really see it being my thing. I think it is great that Libraries are exploring this different dimension and will be watching with interest to see how it all develops.

Task 18

Have read lots over the last year about Library 2.0.- The comment on our 23 Things about "The Library 2.0 movement is really about innovation, people and community building." I think Libraries have always been about these things. I really like the concept of our Library world becoming a two way street - bring it on!!!! Once again the SirsiDynix site has some interesting podcasts to have a look at. http://www.sirsidynixinstitute.com/archive.php

Task 21 Podcasts

I have set the Sirsi Dynix Institute podcasts up in my Google Reader and have also tagged them into deli.ci.ous. They have just done a podcast on Roving which might be interesting

Guide to Roving: An Essential Service for Library 2.0
Dec 11, 2007 | 01:00:00

"Both Public and Academic Libraries are encouraging their staff to step out from behind their desks and reach out to their "hidden customers" - the 50 % or more - those thousands of customers - who are reluctant to approach staff at the Reference desk and so remain un-served."

Task 20 Youtube

I love Youtube and have found some very funny clips, I have already put on the one about the Medieval technology and I loved the one Andrea had on her blog with the singing in the Library - it was like watching one of those excruciating/embarrassing musicals! I really felt for the students who were studying.

Task 19 Pet on wiki William Carlsson

Hi, Have William finally up on the pet page. It took me a few goes; my biggest problem was resizing the photo as I couldn't find the recommended software on the NAL. Matt came to my rescue and we used a free photo resizer software. It was easy to use and very quick to install.
William is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and is about two years old. He is an older version of Madeleine's Charlie. He has a lovely nature, nice but with a cheeky edge. He now has met more of the neighbours than we have!! as we are finally in our new house and until the fences are built he finds ways to escape and being very socialable he goes to visit the neighbours esp. if they have a cat.

Task 17 Yummy or was it just delicious

Have had a play with Del.icio.us. I joined, I added it to Facebook and I will now know 8 ways to instantly calm myself and will be advised on some good books to read.

Task 16 iGoogle

Had fun setting up a few add ons played around with the weather - also set up strange thing in google Maps and saw some sand drawing in Peru - pretty cool

Task 15 Google books

Even though I enjoy "the book" in it physical practicalities I love dipping in and out of the books on Google books - all those literature titles that you know you should read or should have read or forgotten are there for you to get a quick taste. I guess it is feeding my natural laziness as I don't even have to browse the library shelves- my god!!! this could be the next cause of the obesity epidemic.

Task 14 Google Docs

Found it really easy to use - should be great for our students and also people who hotdesk a lot

Task 13 Lucky for some

I love Google Maps - had a look at my house, saw where my daughter was living overseas and had a look at where I used to live in Cairns so have been from Melbourne to London to Cairns and back to Melbourne all from my desk. Visual representations of your trip is really a good way to go.

Task 12 Facebook and MySpace

I already have a Facebook account I joined while my daughter was overseas so I could see her photos and I really felt like we were keeping in touch. I have joined the Swinburne site and have a few library friends. I have also been contacted by a person who is my 4th cousin and we have shared family tree stuff. So two thumbs up to Facebook I think it works well as a social networking site. I have had a look at MySpace and people I know are on it but I don't think I will bother one of these sorts of sites is more than enough and I am comfortable with Facebook.

Task 11

I went onto Technorati and then explored Google blog search thingy - I found a Library blog I like called Friends: Social networking for engaged Library services! Cheers

Tasks 9 and 10 I have set up a google reader

I set up a google reader before Christmas but forgot to blog about it - I can see lots of good uses for this. I have also subscribed to some interesting peripheral journals that I don't normally have time to catch up on, which is great. I'm not sure if I am a Digg person yet only time will tell
